Welcome to historic Huntsville!   In the early 1800's Huntsville became the first English-speaking community in what would soon be the State of Alabama.  Incorporated in 1811, Huntsville became home to the State's first bank, public library, public water supply, railroad, and commercial hotel.  Huntsville was even the first state capital of Alabama.

We've changed a little since then.  Today, the Madison county population is roughly 280,000.  Huntsville is the largest incorporated area in Madison County (approximately 175,000), followed by the city of Madison (25,000).  To find out more about the city of Huntsville, visit the Huntsville City Web Site.  The Huntsville city school system has its own excellent web site.  The city of Madison has its own web presence as well.

The Tennessee Valley offers a wonderful variety of recreational activities from water skiing to fishing on one of our many lakes or the Tennessee River, numerous golf courses, and a variety of natural wonders to enjoy.  You can even go underground, since Huntsville is the national headquarters of the spelunking society (they're cave explorers).

For the latest on commerce and industry, visit the Huntsville-Madison County Chamber of Commerce.
